“Iran is ready to boost nuclear cooperation with South Korea for power generation and (producing) water desalination units, within the framework of the JCPOA and the NPT regulations,” Eshaq Jahangiri said in a meeting with South Korean Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Joo Hyung-hwan, held in Tehran on Monday.

The Iranian official also highlighted South Korea’s significant position in Iran’s foreign policy, saying the two countries can remain “reliable economic partners.”

Jahangiri further hailed the ample opportunities for industrial cooperation between Tehran and Seoul, pointing to Iran’s plans for the development in all areas.

For his part, the Korean minister introduced his country as a dependable customer of Iran’s oil, and hoped that the termination of anti-Iran sanctions would help enhance bilateral relations.

Rising interests in cooperation with Iran follows implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the agreement between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), which took effect on January 16.

The JCPOA has terminated all nuclear-related sanctions on Iran, reopened the doors of foreign investment to the country’s market, and prepared the ground for a much-anticipated economic boom.
