Republican Representative Peter King, a key figure in Congress, has said Americans have lost faith in President Barack Obama’s policy against the Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group.

“What the president has to do is stop claiming that we have ISIS contained,” King said in a radio interview on Sunday, using an alternative acronym for the terror group.

“I think the American people have lost faith, because they see when things are going poorly, the president is not acknowledging it,” King argued.

The New York lawmaker, who is the chairman of the House Sub-Committee on Counter-terrorism and Intelligence, blamed Obama’s inaction as the main reason why other countries have been reluctant to fully commit to the fight.

“These countries are reluctant to get involved because they are not convinced the president wants to stay in here,” he said.

“The president is always talking about how we are going to get out, how we are not going to do this, how we are not going to do that, and that is a very uncertain trumpet for a commander in chief to have,” he added.

Last week, King had criticized Obama’s strategy to confront the terror group, arguing that his policies have only resulted in a stronger Daesh.

On November 13, 2015, Obama boasted of containing the ISIL terror group, a bold assertion that was shattered the following day when a series of attacks left at least 130 people dead in Paris. Daesh claimed responsibility for the carnage.

"What is true is that from the start, our goal has been first to contain, and we have contained them," Obama said at the time.

This is while after more than 15 months of aerial attacks against purported Daesh positions in Iraq and Syria, the US-led coalition has not been able to achieve any significant victories against the Takfiri militants.

Obama’s own military commanders, including Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Marine General Joseph Dunford, have also acknowledged the military campaign is going in the wrong direction.
